Berol 508S is a biodegradable nonionic surfactant based on a synthetic primary alcohol, suitable for use in water based cleaners. It is suitable as an environmentally-friendly replacement for alkyl phenol ethoxylates, particularly nonyl phenol 9 and 10 mole ethoxylates (NP9 and NP10). Berol 508S has many advantages. First, it creates lower foam than the standard alcohol ethoxylate. Second, the alcohol residual is lower. Third, it has less odor.

Unlike some other ethoxylated alcohols, Berol 508S does not form a gel when mixed with water, making it very easy to formulate. It is an excellent wetting agent and emulsifier in cleaning products. It is suitable for use in liquid detergents and all-purpose cleaners. And, Berol 508S is suitable for use in water-based cleaners for hard surfaces, e.g. vehicle cleaning, RTU cleaners, heavy-duty cleaners. Lastly, it is very efficient for cleaning organic soils, such as grease and oil.

Berol 508S may be considered as a special grade of Berol 508. It has essentially the same performance as Berol 508 but a lower pour point and clear point lead to easier handling.
